The Allman Brothers Band is a pioneering and innovative Southern rock and blues group from Macon, Georgia formed on March 26, 1969. Originally popular in the 1970s, they have been described by Rolling Stone's George Kimball in 1971. The Allman Brothers story is inescapably about the cultural forces at work in the American South in the post World War II era, the churning emotional climate responsible for the 'New South' that emerged in the early '70s and culminated in Jimmy Carter's presidency.
